Proceeding from our responsibility toward the community and especially people with special needs, the department was inaugurated after the approval of Rector in 1431H. The study was begun in the first semester of the academic year 1431/1432H in two courses, which are Mental Education and Learning difficulties. In addition, the first batch was graduated in the second semester of the academic year 1434/1435H.

Bachelor Degree in Special Education \ Mental Disability \ and Learning Difficulties.
General features of the Bachelor Degree
The program prepares a specialist teacher, who is able to conduct diagnosis and training procedures, prepare programs, early Intervention and able to teach.
The students are scientifically prepared during eight levels to be qualified.
The program includes the latest courses in special education field.
The developmental plan of the department
The department believes developing the educational process enhances the delivered service the graduate. Therefore, the department is keen to develop a plan that includes the following:
1. Preparing a professional diploma in special education to serve the non-specialist workers in this field and public education teachers, who care to work in special education field.
2. Preparing a master program in special education field.
3. Exchanging expertise with the scientific and professional entities inside or outside the kingdom to keep up with the latest knowledge in this field.
4. Encouraging faculty members to attend and participate on seminars and conferences held by the universities inside or outside the kingdom.
5. Holding trainings on the departments courses to elevate the department’s staff and raise the awareness in the community about special need people requirements.
6. Developing the current study plan of the bachelor degree to achieve the scientific and practical development of the graduates, and to satisfy the needs of teaching community in this field.
7. Expanding the department’s courses to include mental disability, hearing disability, visually impaired, learning difficulties, talent and mental superiority, behavioral disorders, autism and developmental disabilities.
8. Applying a guidance program to the department’s students to elevate their efficiency and their grades.
9. Preparing forums and galleries that build communication bridges between the university and the community, which represented by the educational institutions and privet sector.
10. Delivering consulting services to the families who have special needs persons, which enhances the university role in the community service.
